Hotel News from Denmark for 2020

Copenhagen

Kicking off the year is the new 4-star Bryggen Guldsmeden which opens in January 2020 in the Islands Brygge area of the city. The 214-room hotel combines sleek lines and Scandinavian minimalism with a tropical vibe emanating from lush planting that surrounds the gorgeous indoor pool.

A newcomer to the Danish Capital from the Dutch hotel group, ZOKU Copenhagen will comprise 160-loft style aparthotel rooms. Situated on the Amager island and close to central Copenhagen the capsule living and cool co-working space, operated by Woods, will be the largest in the brand's portfolio to date. Perfect for an extended stay, the property will also contain an organic supermarket.

For urban explorers in their 20’s and 30’s CityHub Copenhagen is an innovative ’Asian-style’ capsule hotel that is set to open in 2020. Offering the privacy and comfort of a hotel with the sense of community and affordability of a hostel the 215 ’hubs’ have a large double bed and clothes rack, WiFi and charging points with access to shared bathroom and toilet facilities. CityHub Copenhagen is located in the city’s hip and happening Vesterbro neighbourhood around five minutes’ walk from Enghave Plads Metro Station. Guests will check in and out using a personal wristband and can use the same band to help themselves to drinks in the hotel bar. Local ’CityHosts’ will be available around the clock to help guests navigate to the coolest hangouts in town.  

At Copenhagen's busiest train station, Denmark's largest hotel chain Scandic will open its 27th hotel, Scandic Nørreport on the corner of Frederiksborggade and Nørre Voldgade. Conveniently located with a direct metro service to the airport and right around the corner from the city’s food halls and Botanical Garden the 100-bedroom hotel will be small compared to other Scandic properties and will feature a roof top terrace, restaurant and sky bar to take in the views of the city.

In spring 2020, Copenhagen Central station gets a new neighbour as the former Central Post & Telegraph Head Office opens as Villa Copenhagen. Allowing the past and present to come together the historic building, which dates back to 1912, will incorporate many of its original features with an elegant and contemporary Nordic style across the 390 bedrooms and public areas. Villa Copenhagen will have a breakfast restaurant, a brasserie, an exclusive wine bar and a cosy courtyard. There will also be an outdoor heated pool, sauna, gym and an urban rooftop garden.

For the convenience of Copenhagen airport, Comfort Hotel will open the largest hotel and conference centre in the Nordic Countries in September 2020 with 619 bedrooms, conference facilities, a restaurant, sky bar and a fitness centre spread across 12 floors.

Aarhus and around

Beyond the capital Denmark’s second city gets two new cool design hotels in the city centre as well as one in the nearby town of Horsens.

First up is BOOK1 from the Danish Brøchner Hotel group with a new take on old style hostel accommodation.  In their first project outside Copenhagen the 396-bed property is based on the premise that you shouldn’t have to stay in uninspiring surrounds even in a hostel. Opening in March 2020 close to the ARoS Museum in Mølleparken in the centre of the city, the former library mixes minimalist Scandinavian styling with cool industrial steel and rooms range from shared bunk dorms for up to 14 people with shared bathrooms to private twin or double rooms with private bathrooms. There are even four hostel suites with private bathrooms for up to 4 people. The hostel is aimed at younger travellers and uses innovative digital solutions such as an app that will allow guests to chat with staff and open their rooms. 

Joining BOOK1 in the spring is a great new Radisson Red Aarhus. The new creative brand from the Radisson Hotel Group is inspired by music, art and fashion and will open in Aarhus with 78 rooms, a restaurant, gym and a meeting space. Located in the centre of the city, close to shops, attractions and the historic Latin Quarter with its numerous bars and cafes. It’s a quick hop from the main railway station and within easy access to the airport.

Less than an hour south of Aarhus in the town of Horsens, the town’s iconic Jørgensens Hotel is set to open in 2020 after a major refurbishment. The hotel is located in the majestic Lichtenbergs Palace from 1744, and the reopened hotel will maintain its period charm and personality. All the rooms will be individually decorated and have all the modern amnesties need for a relaxing vacation. 

Getting there

Denmark is within easy to reach using direct flights from London, Bristol, Manchester, Liverpool and Edinburgh to Copenhagen, Aarhus, Billund and Aalborg.

SAS flies from Stansted and Heathrow to Copenhagen and from Manchester to Aarhus with prices starting from £60 one way.

BA has flights from Heathrow to Copenhagen and Billund.

Ryanair operates from Stansted to Copenhagen, Aarhus, Billund and Aalborg; from Southend and Liverpool to Copenhagen; from Liverpool to Copenhagen and from Manchester to Billund starting at £15 one way.

EasyJet connects Gatwick, Bristol and Edinburgh to Copenhagen with prices from £25 one way. Norwegian offers flights from Gatwick and Edinburgh to Copenhagen starting at £30.
